My Teaching Philosophy

I believe music should be fun to learn and fun to play!  Music is an art and an expression of oneself. Music is an outlet and a great way to share one's emotions and feelings in a beautifully expressive way.

Music is also a great enhancer to cognitive development in people of all ages, and especially young children.  Learning music, especially piano, for children who start before the age of 7 has an even greater effect on their cognitive development.

Every student is different, but I have seen young children who start and are very unfocused, gain a lot of focus during their lessons, which I believe carries over into other areas of study.

Learning music is like a puzzle for the mind and the pieces are made up of sound.  Music can be intricate and complex or simple and groovy.  Music always has the potential to be interesting, fun, and entertaining.

I also believe students should study and learn music that inspires them.  This is why I teach a variety of styles and why I teach piano and voice and often teach them together and encourage the student to develop both their voice and the piano.

A lot of children and teens want to learn pop music, because it is what they hear on the radio and it is fun music to play.  I enjoy working on pop songs quite and bit and love teaching a student how to arrange a pop song acoustically for the piano and how to develop their creative skills in that way as well.

Classical music is fun too!  Classical music is beautiful and is such a lovely music to hear on the piano.  There is a reason classical music has survived for centuries and we still hear their melodies today in our movies, TV shows, commercials, ect. I enjoy giving my students a music education and exposing them to the different forms and periods of music that modern music is built on
